Modular moon habitat idea, not alien news

An Indian astronaut’s panel-based habitat concept gets dressed up as an extraterrestrial breakthrough; it is design theory, not a base.

Shubhanshu Shukla, India’s astronaut on a recent ISS stint, described BHEEM: a modular system of flat panels that fold into polyhedral shapes for future habitats. No prototype has flown. No structure exists off Earth.

The record shows a concept sketch and some public remarks, tied to routine space agency outreach. That’s it. The headline’s talk of ‘extraterrestrial habitats’ implies colonies are coming; the actual claim is architectural theory for missions decades away, if funded at all.

Grade: the engineering idea is plausible, the framing is inflated. This is habitat planning, not evidence of anything beyond low Earth orbit. Worth a second look only when ISRO or anyone else actually builds one.
