Pale Juárez predator: probably a mangy dog

A grainy photo and a familiar promoter are reviving chupacabra headlines, but the evidence hasn’t moved an inch.

Jaime Maussan is back, this time with a grainy photo from Mexico’s Valley of Juárez: a pale, roughly six-foot creature blamed for several dead chickens. He says it could be interdimensional. No carcass was recovered, no measurements taken beyond eyeballing a wall height, and no independent examination has occurred.

Chupacabra reports have followed this template since 1995: dead livestock, a monster theory, zero physical evidence. Mangy coyotes and feral dogs produce the same profile; sarcoptic mange causes hair loss, emaciation and an odd gait, and both species climb and jump better than people expect. It’s probably a dog.

Maussan’s record deserves a mention. In past cases he presented ‘alien’ specimens to Mexican lawmakers that turned out to include human bone and fabricated material. One promoter with a history of inflating claims, one uncredentialed photo, no chain of custody; that’s the whole evidence base here.
